Department: School of Design & Architecture The School of Design & Architecture at ADA University The School of Design and Architecture (SDA) is outlined in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano in the framework of the Italy-Azerbaijan University initiative. It offers bachelor's programs in Interior Design, Architecture, Urban Planning and Communication Design. ADA University is intertwined with the country’s plans, where economic and cultural growth lead the way. The urban areas are growing, and the country landscape and profile are evolving. The School of Design and Architecture will share the polytechnic approach to Design, Architecture, and Urban Planning. Candidates must have a potential or demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, scholarly research and publication in peer-reviewed journals, and academic engagement. Qualifications: Candidates must have a Master of Science Degree or equivalent degree. The following qualifications will be considered as an asset: PhD in a relevant field. Year: 1 st (Foundation Year) Course: History of Modern Art Semester: First Start dates: September 2026 The course is designed to foster a dynamic learning experience by adopting an interactive, multidisciplinary approach. Students will develop critical analysis skills, deepen their understanding of modern art, and enhance communication through presentations. The incorporation of museum visits aims to establish a tangible link between theoretical concepts and the artistic reality. Seminars and workshops will further engage students in focused exploration, encouraging the development of critical thinking and analytical proficiency. This holistic approach ensures a comprehensive educational journey, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills for a nuanced comprehension of modern art. Course's Objectives & Expected Learning Outcomes General Lines and Skills: Frame artists and works within their historical context. Read artworks using appropriate methods and terminology. Recognize and explain iconographic, symbolic, stylistic, functional, and technical aspects of artworks. The course advances the study of late 19th-century and 20th-century art (painting, sculpture, architecture), supporting the learning of design processes and artistic languages on a historical- cultural level. It covers artistic research from Post-Impressionism to historical avant-gardes, the main experiences of the post-war period, and contemporary art. Beginning with neoclassical and romantic movements, it follows the development of art, including avant-garde movements, up to the mid-20th century, with a focus on contemporary experiences. Key content includes the rediscovery of ancient ideals in neoclassicism, Romanticism's ties to historical context, realists' reflections on the mid-19th-century political and social climate, and the impact of photography on Impressionism. Subsequently, the course explores the break with tradition by historical avant-gardes, the birth and development of the futurist movement, art between the wars, the return to order, and the birth and developments of the Modern Movement in architecture, finally encompassing the main lines of research in contemporary art.
